Classic Steak Frites Baguette

Y’all… WHO DON’T LOVE A STEAK AND FRENCH FRIES? Okay, okay, maybe not a vegan. But this classic French dish is just magnifique. Also, I am very confident in my at-home french fry making skills now. Can’t go back. We even made a little mayo based lemon dippin’ sauce.

10 Days of Baguettes: Day 5

Ingredients:

  • Baguette

  • A GOOD Steak, I got a sirloin from Porter Road Butcher

  • Butter

  • Salt, Pepper

  • Small bunch of Sage

  • 1 Lemon

  • 3 TBSP mayonaise

  • 1 Potato

  • Cooking Oil (vegetable, peanut, etc.)

Directions:

  • Peel your potato, chop into long, thin, rectangles. Set on to paper towel to dry as much as possible before frying.

  • Heat up a shallow-ish pool of your cooking oil (I used my Our Place pan), cook fries in batches, use a long strainer to transfer if possible (such as this). Fry until golden, then move to bowl.

  • Heat butter on stove top and toast that baguette baby!

  • Also heat butter on HIGH HIGH heat. Prepare steak with salt and pepper. Sear 3-4 minutes on each side for rare/medium-rare. I ain’t REALLY an expert here. But I like my steak on the rareee side. Especially if it’s the good stuff.

  • Mix 3 TBSP of mayo, 1 juice of a lemon, and a bit of salt.

  • Cut shreds of sage, mix in with bowl of fries, add salt.

  • Add steak to baguette, splat a little mayo/lemon mixture on it, and use the rest for dippin’ dem frites.
